A prayer for growth in holiness:

Having seen your hatred for sin and your love for righteousness, how could I sin?

I have seen the fullness of your just anger borne by Christ for me. How could I be speak angrily to others?

I have seen your patience with me through decades of rebellion. How could I be impatient with others?

I have seen how you work the evil of others for good. How could I be bitter?

A Day to Remember

In between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday there is a day to pause and remember. Remembrance is huge in the Bible. To remember in a biblical sense is more than just recalling facts, it is re-participating-in and re-applying.

This whole weekend is a time to re-participate and re-apply the truths of what Christ has done for us in dying and rising victorious over death. This is a meditation I wrote some time ago and have adapted for this occasion of remembrance.

Psalm 77 has been precious to me over the years. As I reflect on Asaph’s experience in battling with discouragement and despair, this one thought overwhelms me: Remembrance is a means of grace.

God knows our frame. He knows that we are weak and prone to forget the most important things in the most important times. In his grace, he gives the church rites of remembrance so that we will always be forced to remember the most important things.

Easter: Remembering that Jesus Actually Died and Rose

Easter is coming! That means lots of things for lots of people. But the reality is that Easter weekend is a time set aside to remember the death (on Good Friday) and the resurrection (on Easter Sunday) of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But that begs this question… was Jesus really crucified? Did he really die? And (perhaps most importantly), did Jesus really, literally, bodily rise from the dead?

I came across this video about three years ago and found it helpful. Hopefully you will find it helpful too as it walks us through some of these basic questions that Christians often face around Easter.
